I was in Alaska, May 10-17, with Lindblad Expeditions/National Geographic. We cruised on the Sea Lion from Juneau to Sitka, via Tracy Arm, Petersberg, Elfin Cove, Glacier Bay, and other wonderful and magnificant places. I made 1200 images, most of the land- and waterscapes we encountered and the wildlife we observed. Altogether we saw 15 species of mammals, including humpback whales, bear, and moose, and 86 species of birds, such as puffins, eagles, and marbled murrelets. It was magical to watch the whales’ flukes completely emerge from the water as they dived straight down to feed in the lower reaches of the fjords.
I’ll probably be posting some of the resulting photos on the website, mainly views of the rain forest and glaciers. But I was also intrigued by the hulls of the fishing fleet in Petersberg. Here are some examples.
